Supporting Neurodivergent Post Secondary Students

This presentation on supporting neurodivergent post secondary students, is targeted towards both students and instructors in a post-secondary setting. Presented by autistic individuals, it delves into supports and accommodations and ways to advocate and gain access to supports.

Presenters

Dr. Nicole Burnett has a PhD in Cognitive Science and a post-graduate certificate in Autism and Behavioral Science. Dr. Burnet works as a Psychology Instructor at Medicine Hat College. She is a founding member of Medicine Hat Autism Society, a board member of Autism Society Alberta and is part of Autism Alberta’s Alliance Post Secondary Community of Practice. Dr. Burnett is a parent of two neurodivergent children (One autistic, another ADHD), and is neurodivergent herself (autistic).

Ravyn Williams was diagnosed with autism as an adult at the age of 20 and also has ADHD. Ravyn has worked in childcare as an Early Childhood Educator since 2021. She is a student at Medicine Hat College in the Child and Youth Care Counselling Diploma program. She volunteers with Medicine Hat Autism Society and is a member of Autism Alberta’s Alliance Post Secondary Community of Practice.
